Looking for authentic and easy French songs for beginner French learners in the classroom, or even for French study on your own? Are you a French teacher looking for authentic music that's not too difficult, but your students will actually like?

I use these 10 authentic French songs and music videos in my French 1 high school classroom. They are perfect for beginner French learners, novice learners, and are perfect for students of French who are learning on their own!

These authentic French music videos are organized by topic and common grammar structures.

1. Papaoutai-Stromae

Stromae is an instant class favorite–he's an innovator in the world of Europop and his strongly worded messages make him hard to ignore. Not to mention danceable. 2. Je M'appelle Mercy-Madame Monsieur

I always show Je M'appelle Mercy on the first day of class to get students familiar with the phrase and show students how fun French class is! Click here for the lesson plans. This video in particular has a strong social message about warfare and immigration as well–and your kids will be dying to know what the lyrics mean after they watch the tantalizing music video. Great for greetings and early early early basic French 1 skills, plus an early introduction into social justice topics.

3. Comme des Enfants-Coeur de Pirate

I love to show Coeur de Pirate when talking about Canada and especially in my unit on AIMER and likes/dislikes. This song is great for introducing basic ER verbs too, and I also use it to reinforce subject pronouns. The ready-made lesson plans for this song (inluding a cultural reading) are available in my TpT store here.

4. A Coup de Rêves-Ben l'Oncle Soul

Culture, culture, culture my friends. I show this video to highlight the Francophone community in Africa-which outnumbers the French speakers in Europe. Ben l'Oncle Soul brings much-needed modernity and depth to the classroom, while honoring the motown greats.

5. Elle Me Dit-MIKA

This song is fantastic for its quirky video alone, but the educational value likes in all the high quality present tense, both regular and irregular. This is a perfect song to show midway through French 1 for whatever verb structure you're working on.

6. Dernière Danse-Indila

This song has great shots of Paris throughout, and is a perfect way to introduce verb conjugations, as it's almost exclusively in 1st person. This is a great way to show verbs in context before diving into conjugation (through communicative methods like comprehensible input, of course!)

7. Ego-Willy William

This song repeats great beginner phrases and Willy William speaks very slowly with tons of repeats. It was practically made for beginner French students. I show this song during my aller unit.

8. Je Suis Chez Moi-Black M

Chez Moi has always been a class favorite-this is a song my students request to hear throughout the year, and I actually show it at the very beginning of the year, in the first two weeks, to do colors and je suis. It's also a great opportunity to talk about racism and xenophobia, as the song material speaks strongly on both. 9. Je Veux-Zaz

This Zaz song of pure joy in the simple things will turn any 1st period class into a bunch of cheery ole' jazz singers. It's infectious, gorgeous, fun, and beautifully simple lyrics are a great way for students to dive into the Super 7 structures and not realize how much language they are learning.

10. Edith Piaf-Je ne Regrette Rien

No list of the 10 best French beginner songs would be complete without some La Mome. She's the queen, and must be honored. Je ne Regrette Rien is also an easier way to talk about classic French culture, since many students have seen or are at least familiar with its use in Inception. Also, negatives galore–who could want more?
